Al-Muddaththir

O you who covers himself [with a garment],

اے کمبل میں لپٹ کر لیٹنے والے ﷺ !

Arise and warn.

آپ ﷺ اٹھئے اور (لوگوں کو) خبردار کیجیے۔

And your Lord glorify.

اور اپنے رب کو بڑا کرو !

And your clothing purify.

اور اپنے کپڑوں کو صاف رکھنے کا اہتمام کیجیے۔

And uncleanliness avoid.

اور ہر قسم کی گندگی سے دور رہیے۔

And do not confer favor to acquire more.

اور زیادہ لینے کے لیے کسی پر احسان نہ کیجیے۔

But for your Lord be patient.

اور اپنے رب کے لیے صبر کرو۔

And when the trumpet is blown,

جب صور میں پھونکا جائے گا۔

That Day will be a difficult day

تو وہ دن بہت سخت دن ہوگا۔

For the disbelievers - not easy.

کافروں پر وہ ہلکا نہیں ہوگا۔

Leave Me with the one I created alone

آپ چھوڑ دیجیے مجھے اور جس کو میں نے اکیلا پیدا کیا۔

And to whom I granted extensive wealth

اور اسے میں نے بہت سا مال دیا پھیلا ہوا۔

And children present [with him]

اور نگاہوں کے سامنے رہنے والے بیٹے دیے۔

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].

اور میں نے اس کے لیے ہر قسم کا سامان خوب اچھی طرح سے تیار کردیا۔

Then he desires that I should add more.

پھر وہ چاہتا ہے کہ میں اسے اور بھی دوں !

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.

ہرگز نہیں ! وہ تو ہماری آیات کا مخالف (اور دشمن بن گیا) ہے۔

I will cover him with arduous torment.

میں اسے عنقریب ایک سخت چڑھائی چڑھوائوں گا۔

Indeed, he thought and deliberated.

اس نے غور کیا اور کچھ اندازہ کیا۔

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

پس ہلاک ہوجائے اس نے کیسا غلط اندازہ ٹھہرایا۔

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

پھر ہلاک ہوجائے اس نے کیسا غلط اندازہ ٹھہرایا۔

Then he considered [again];

پھر اس نے دیکھا۔

Then he frowned and scowled;

پھر تیوری چڑھائی اور منہ بسورا۔

Then he turned back and was arrogant

پھر پیٹھ پھیری اور تکبر کیا۔

And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].

پھر اس نے کہا کہ یہ تو بس جادو ہے جو پہلے سے چلا آ رہا ہے۔

This is not but the word of a human being."

یہ نہیں ہے مگر انسان کا کلام۔

I will drive him into Saqar.

میں عنقریب اسے ڈالوں گا سقر (دوزخ) میں !

And what can make you know what is Saqar?

اور تمہیں کیا معلوم کہ وہ سقر کیا ہے ؟

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],

وہ نہ تو باقی رہنے دے گی اور نہ چھوڑے گی !

Altering [i.e., blackening] the skins.

انسان کی کھال کو جھلسا ڈالنے والی۔

Over it are nineteen [angels].

اس پر انیس (1) داروغے مقرر ہیں۔

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allāh intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allāh send astray whom He wills and guide whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And it [i.e., mention of the Fire] is not but a reminder to humanity.

اور ہم نے نہیں مقرر کیے جہنم کے داروغے مگر فرشتے اور ہم نے نہیں ٹھہرائی ان کی یہ تعداد مگر کافروں کی آزمائش کے لیے تاکہ جنہیں کتاب دی گئی تھی انہیں یقین آجائے اور جو اہل ایمان ہیں وہ ایمان میں بڑھیں اور نہ شک میں پڑیں اہل کتاب اور اہل ایمان اور تاکہ کہیں وہ لوگ جن کے دلوں میں روگ ہے اور کفار بھی کہ بھلا اس سے اللہ کی کیا مراد ہے ؟ اسی طرح اللہ گمراہ کردیتا ہے جس کو چاہتا ہے اور ہدایت دیتا ہے جس کو چاہتا ہے۔ اور کوئی نہیں جانتا آپ کے رب کے لشکروں کو سوائے اس کے۔ اور یہ آیات صرف انسانوں کی یاد دہانی کے لیے ہیں۔

No! By the moon.

کیوں نہیں قسم ہے چاند کی۔

And [by] the night when it departs.

اور قسم ہے رات کی جب کہ وہ پیٹھ موڑے۔

And [by] the morning when it brightens,

اور قسم ہے صبح کی جبکہ وہ روشن ہوجائے۔

Indeed, it [i.e., the Fire] is of the greatest [afflictions].

یقینا یہ بہت بڑی باتوں میں سے ایک بات ہے۔

As a warning to humanity -

خبردار کرنے کے لیے انسانوں کو۔

To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.

جو بھی تم میں سے چاہے کہ وہ آگے بڑھے یا پیچھے رہ جائے۔

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained.

ہر جان رہن ہے اس کے عوض جو کچھ کہ اس نے کمایا ہے۔

Except the companions of the right,.

سوائے ان لوگوں کے جو داہنے والے ہوں گے۔

[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other

وہ جنتوں میں ہوں گے پوچھتے ہوں گے۔

About the criminals,

گنہگاروں کے بارے میں۔

[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"

تم لوگوں کو کس چیز نے جہنم میں ڈالا ؟

They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,

وہ کہیں گے کہ ہم نماز پڑھنے والوں میں سے نہیں تھے۔

Nor did we used to feed the poor.

اور نہ ہم مسکین کو کھانا کھلاتے تھے۔

And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],

اور ہم کٹ حجتیاں کرنے والوں کے ساتھ مل کر کٹ حجتیاں کیا کرتے تھے۔

And we used to deny the Day of Recompense

اور (سب سے بڑھ کر یہ کہ) ہم جزاء وسزا کے دن کا انکار کرتے رہے۔

Until there came to us the certainty [i.e., death]."

یہاں تک کہ ہمیں موت نے آلیا۔

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.

تو اب ان کے لیے نفع بخش نہیں ہوگی شفاعت کرنے والوں کی کوئی شفاعت۔

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away.

تو انہیں کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ یہ اس یاد دہانی (قرآن) سے اعراض کرنے والے بنے ہوئے ہیں ؟

As if they were alarmed donkeys.

گویا وہ بدکے ہوئے جنگلی گدھے ہیں۔

Fleeing from a lion?

جو شیر سے ڈر کر بھاگ پڑے ہیں۔

Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.

بلکہ ان میں سے ہر شخص چاہتا ہے کہ اس کو پکڑا دیے جائیں کھلے صحیفے۔

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.

ہرگز نہیں ! اصل بات یہ ہے کہ وہ آخرت کا خوف نہیں رکھتے۔

No! Indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder.

ہرگز نہیں ! یہ تو بس ایک یاد دہانی ہے۔

Then whoever wills will remember it.

اب جو چاہے اس سے نصیحت اخذ کرلے۔

And they will not remember except that Allāh wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness.

اور یہ لوگ نصیحت اخذ نہیں کریں گے مگر یہ کہ اللہ ہی ایسا چاہے۔ وہی ڈرنے کے لائق ہے اور وہی مغفرت کا مجاز۔
